Lisbon
The sunny laidback capital of Southern Europe
Lisbon is, first and foremost, a beautifully landscaped city known as the “City of the seven hills”. It’s hilly, most central and historical, neighbourhoods such as Alfama, Mouraria, Graça, or Bairro Alto, perched in front of the sprawling Tagus river offer the most amazing scenic spots. Among many, we dare to say that our favorites are Sra. do Monte and S. Pedro de Alcântara.
Despite being a capital city, Lisbon has also managed to retain a small-town feeling when compared to other capital cities across Europe. There is still a very friendly and lively atmosphere in its neighbourhoods, with small local shops and markets, where neighbours still call each other by their given names. It’s also a city of wide tree-lined boulevards, busy cafes spilling out onto the streets, and nice terraces to linger on. This laid-back atmosphere is probably one of the reasons why so many visitors end up moving here.
On top of all this, you can easily access world-class cultural institutions such as the Gulbenkian Foundation, CCB in Belém, or the new MAAT Museum. Not to mention some of the best Atlantic beaches just south of Lisbon, like Arrabida and Comporta, and also some of the best surfing spots in Europe a little bit north like Ericeira and the unmissable fairytale little village of Sintra just next door.
Even for locals such as us, the list of things to do and explore sometimes feels overwhelming but that’s probably why so many guests keep coming back. Because they always find something new to explore.
Accept our invitation to discover our favorite capital city in Europe and of course, if you can, stay with us. We would feel really flattered to have you with us!
